Biopolitics focuses on the symbiosis between the socio-political subject and the living body or soma. That is, what the ancient Greeks called Bios – social life - and Zôe – natural life. Meaning that Power expands not only into biological questions, such as health or food, but also that Power is something that we internalize and exercise through our behaviors and lifestyles.

During the last stage of his life, M. Foucault focused on the importance of the Care of the Self, Epimeleia Heautou, otherwise known as the work on the self as a form of political emancipation.
Since the french philospopher used the concept of Biopolitics in the sixties, numerous investigations have been carried out within the disciplines of politics, medicine, law and education. However, an analysis of contemporary art practices from a biopolitical approach is essential to understand the models of representation of the (bio)political subject and its influence.

Visual arts is a place where images of the subject are designed and represented, directly or indirectly, generating behavioral models. This group of artists, from the geopolitical region of southern Europe, generate symbolic models of personal and procedural experimentation through their art work and its processes. Foucault´s Care of the Self.

This exhibition aims to be a sketch for a biopolitical visual theory applicable to contemporary artistic practice.
